Episode 519 with guests Julia, Carsyn and Madelyn
Julia Barber was born and raised in Wichita, Kansas. She lives with her two parents, Glenn and Jennifer Barber, her older sister, Caroline, and her two dogs, Betty and Charlie. She is a junior at Eisenhower High School. Julia is involved in many different school activities. She is a member of the EHS Tigerettes Dance Team and has been dancing since she was three years old. Julia holds multiple leadership positions at her school. She is currently Student Council Junior Class President, Kansas Association for Youth President (KAY). Julia is a member of the National Honors Society and EHS Concert Choir. She holds multiple jobs including being an employee of Color Me mine, dog sitting, and babysitting. Julia plans to attend Emporia State University to study Elementary Education. Julia first heard about the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through her older sister. In 2019, Caroline ran a campaign in memory of Julia’s friend, JC. Last year, three of Julia’s classmates ran a campaign in honor of JC. Now it is Julia and her friends turn. JC Delamore battled Leukemia for eleven years. He fought with such bravery and always had a smile on his face. JC inspired Julia and her friends to run a campaign to make a difference in cancer patients lives.
Carsyn McCue was raised by her two biggest role models, her mom (Pam McCue) and dad (Mike McCue). She also looks up to her two older brothers, Colin and Caleb. She is currently a junior at Eisenhower High School in Goddard, Kansas. This is where she is involved with many different clubs, programs, and atand uses the majority of her time. Carsyn is an active participant in the Executive Student Council, National Honors Society, EHS Cheer, and the Lady Tigers Softball team. Carsyn is also a member of the EHS Business Professionals of America club, where she holds a 3X National qualifier title. Carsyn enjoys playing softball all summer long and when she isn’t doing that she loves to spend time with family and be at the lake. She is currently an intern at Wichita Tech Services, where she has worked there for 2 years and plans to continue throughout high school. After high school, Carsyn will further her education while playing college softball. Once her softball years are over she plans to apply to Medical School, and study to become an OB-GYN. Carsyn and JC became friends during elementary school
Madelyn Smith is a junior at Eisenhower High School in Goddard, Kansas. At school, she is involved in various activities and clubs including cheerleading, student council, Kansas Association of Youth, National Honor Society, Tiger Ambassadors, and orchestra. After high school, Maddie plans on attending Kansas State University to receive her undergraduate degree in pre-physical therapy. Following her four years in Manhattan, she will attend the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Wichita State University. Madelyn is an active member of her church. She lives with her parents, Brian and Jennifer, her brother, Mason, and her three pets, Azul, Dash, and Oakley. Maddie enjoys spending time at the lake, traveling, riding rollercoasters, drinking smoothies, laying in her backyard hammock, collecting vinyls, and making friendship bracelets. JC Delamore was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 2. He went through countless chemotherapy treatments, transfusions, experimental therapies, and procedures. JC was in and out of hospitals for the majority of his life. Despite his battles, including multiple remissions, he maintained a positive attitude and continued to be an excellent student and inspiration to all. JC sadly passed away from his 11 year battle with leukemia on May 20, 2018. Maddie had the privilege of being JC’s friend throughout her childhood. Her favorite memory of him is when they would eat lunch together in their school counselor’s office! She is blessed to have called him a friend for so long and honored to be running for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Students of the Year Campaign in his memory.
